Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you hear the constant buzz of the Y2K bug these days...

If you have questions about year 2000 compliance and your ACES Systems' equipment, here is a quick and easy check you can conduct on your 17XX analyzer.

The "firmware" is the information contained on two chips inside the 17xx, which give the analyzer some basic operating information. One of those pieces of information tells the analyzer how to interpret the date. There are versions of the analyzer firmware that will do this correctly until the year 2003, then confusion sets in for the analyzer. The bright side to all this is that we have already corrected the firmware version and the upgrade to the new version is free. Here is a quick check you can conduct to tell you if your analyzer is ready for the year 2003 and beyond. (Sounds rather "Star Trekish" doesn’t it?).

  1. With the analyzer off, press and hold the "7" key.
  2. Continue to hold the "7" key and turn the analyzer ON by pressing the ON/OFF key.
  3. Continue holding the "7" key and watch for the large ACES Systems logo to appear.
  4. Directly below the ACES Systems logo, there will be three lines of text.
  5. Read the second line that contains the Model number, 1700 or 1725 for instance, then the firmware version number, such as v1.14, 2.02C or 2.04C.
  6. If the version number is 2.02C or higher the analyzer is fully Y2K compliant.
  7. If the version number is less than 2.02C, contact ACES Systems. We will give you shipping directions and a return number. The analyzer will be upgraded at no cost and returned to you with a certificate of Y2K compliance.

If your analyzer is already Y2K compliant and you need a certification letter or a listing of all ACES Systems' Y2K compliant products, contact ACES Systems and ask for Dawn in Customer Service. She will take your request and provide the information and certification as required.
