Pratt and Whitney Canada now
requires the use of ACES Systems' equipment to acquire an approved vibration survey and to
balance all their fan engines. There has been some confusion for our customers who service PWC engines about the new procedure and associated accessories. The following are some of the most common problems and how you might avoid them. Procedure Card Version. The version of the procedure card must be 2.0 or higher to comply with the PWC requirements. Earlier versions are not approved for use. The most common nonapproved procedure you will encounter is for the JT15, which is version 1.12. If you have this version and want the latest approved version, call ACES Systems'. 517 Speed Conditioning Unit. The later Procedure versions (2.0 and higher) also require the use of a Model 517 speed conditioning unit. This device allows you to collect N1 and N2 simultaneously for the vibration survey and to use a tach generator or N1 output, for most engine models, to conduct fan trim balancing. The Model 517 cannot be used in conjunction with older versions (lower than 2.0) of the procedure. There are also various speed interface cables necessary to collect speed data from the numerous models of PWC engines and airframe on which they are installed. Call ACES Systems' for a full list of available engine and aircraft accessories. Memory Upgrade. In order to use the latest procedure with the Model 517, your analyzer must also be upgraded to 4.5 megabytes. The increased memory is necessary to collect the massive amount of data now required to conduct an approved PWC vibration survey. The upgrade is done at ACES Systems and can be accomplished in a single day if necessary. One of the added benefits of this upgrade is that you will be able to load and store all your procedures on the analyzer if you could not do this previously. Engine Models. The procedures, accessories, and memory upgrades mentioned above apply to all Pratt and Whitney Canada JT15, PW300 Series, PW500 Series, PW200 Series engines, as well as some industrial engine models. If you have questions or need assistance with your applications, call ACES Systems' Product Support or contact Pratt and Whitney Canada Customer Support. |
