If your Model 1700 series analyzer starts exhibiting strange behavior such as random characters on the screen, error messages that you’ve never seen before, or loss of data, it may be due to corrupt data or a temporary condition caused by a static discharge or a weather radar sweep across the circuit board.

Experience has proven that 70% of some of the more common errors of this type can be alleviated by a simple reboot of the analyzer's operating system, what we call "reinitializing" the analyzer. The process is simple and could save you hours or even days of waiting for a repair that wasn’t really needed at all. There are some things you must be aware of prior to reinitializing the analyzer to prevent the unnecessary loss of collected data. There may be incidents where you will not be able to recover the data but you may still be able to correct the overall problem. To reinitialize the analyzer, proceed as follows:

  1. Using ACES Systems' AvTrend™ or Intelli-Trend® software, download all the data currently stored in the analyzer's memory. If you do not download the data prior to the reinitialize process, all data will be permanently lost.
  2. After the data has been downloaded, turn the analyzer ON by pressing the [ON/OFF] key.
  3. When the analyzer is on, press the [SPCL MODES] key.
  4. From the SPECIAL MODES menu screen, use the [DOWN ARROW] key to move the cursor over "3—Manage Data", then press [ENTER]
  5. From the Manage Data menu screen, use the [DOWN ARROW] key to move the cursor over "4—Initialize Analyzer", then press [ENTER]
  6. The analyzer screen will display an information screen reading "This Action Erases All Memory. Do you wish to continue? (YES/NO)." This prompts you to verify that you understand the warning. The default answer is "No". If you press [ENTER] with the No answer displayed, the initialize process will be aborted. If you DO understand that you are about to erase all the memory in the analyzer and your intention is to continue, use the [RIGHT ARROW] key to toggle the answer field to "Yes", then press [ENTER].
  7. The screen will go blank, then begin Testing Random Access Memory (RAM) to verify there are no malfunctions. The screen will then display the warning screen "WARNING, Battery backed memory has been reinitialized, WARNING." This screen is only to inform you that there are no procedures or user-selected items stored in the analyzers memory and you should expect to make changes or load procedures necessary for your normal operations. Press [ENTER] to acknowledge and continue.
  8. The Date and Time screen will be displayed. Verify that they are correct, then follow the directions at the bottom of the screen to "Press EXP to change", or "Press any other key to exit. Pressing the [EXP] key will provide the means to change the day, date, and time as necessary. If they are correct as is, press any key to continue.
  9. When the "ANALYSIS" banner screen is displayed, turn the analyzer OFF then reload the procedures of your choice from your procedure cards.

This should remedy "most" of the problems experienced with abnormal screen presentations. If it does not, contact ACES Systems' Product Support.
