Is Your Memory Full?

Is the memory in your Model 2020 ProBalancer Analyzer full? After conducting many jobs, a little housecleaning may be in order.

When the memory in the 2020 becomes full, several errors may occur, including:

  • Model 540 Optical Tracker malfunction
  • Error Messages
  • Data from main rotor, tail rotor, propeller, or vibration surveys will not store to the memory

The first indication that the memory is full is during the start of a new job or when trying to store a new setup. A message will be generated stating that a job or setup has to be deleted before the new one can be stored.

A standard Model 2020 has about 135,000 bytes of memory. Loading a setup into the analyzer takes up some of this memory. The following are the number of bytes each type of setup requires:

  • Non Turbo Memory = 135,000 bytes
  • Main Rotor Setup = 6300
  • Tail Rotor Setup = 550
  • Spectrum Survey Setup = 330
  • Propeller Setup = 610

When one of the above setups is used as a job, the memory numbers are as follows:

  • Main Rotor Job = 30,000 per job
  • Propeller = 2000 per job
  • Tail Rotor = 2700 per job
  • Spectrum Survey = 2600

As can be seen by the above numbers, if we had loaded a helicopter setup and balanced four helicopters, we would have depleted our available memory.

To prevent such a situation, there are several measures than can be taken.  The data has to be purged from the analyzer. If you want the data to be saved for future reference, then take one of the following options before purging the data:

  • Print a hardcopy of the data.
  • Save the data to a database such as ACES Systems' AvTrend Bronze running on a personal computer. AvTrend Bronze allows the data to be stored, viewed, and even trended for vibration analysis. The data is then available for future reference.
  • Upgrade your Model 2020 to a TURBO. The Turbo option increases spectrum acquisition speed by 71%, expands the maximum frequency range from 600,000 to 1.2 million, and triples the size of the analyzers' memory.

How can I check the available memory before I start a job?

Checking the available memory is outlined in Chapter 13 of the Model 2020 Manual. The procedures are as follows:

From the Main Menu, select "Miscellaneous Items" and press [Enter]. Select "Database Information" and press [Enter]. The "Database Information" selection will produce the "Database Information" banner screen. In the center of the screen the total number of objects stored and read successfully will be displayed. The total free memory (in bytes) and the total amount of stored data (in bytes) will also be displayed. This is an information (read-only) screen and its contents cannot be altered by the user from within this screen. Press the [F3] "Continue" key to exit this screen.

Proper Management of completed jobs in your analyzer will increase the operation efficiency as well as helping to keep multiple balance jobs organized.
